The reporting on President Obama's first 100 days is better left to people who care about such things. So he's been in office 100 days. Do people expect him to have carried out his entire agenda in that time period? Stop analyzing any president on an arbitrary count of days.
The Swine Flu progresses on, but there's not an overabundance of new information as of yet. So while surfing, this little gem of Republican lies came up. Sure they are a bunch of racists...we knew that one already. Their undercurrent of barely veiled race-based comments about borders leading to the spread of Swine Flu, or even better, Obama visiting Mexico causing the flu outbreak Now it's the gays turn.
On the floor of congress, Virginia Foxx (R-N.C.) decided to say her peace about some new hate-crime legislation brewing in the House of Representatives and of course, it came out pretty much as one would expect from a Republican...lies.
Foxx decided to bring up the exsisting bill against hate crimes, sometimes called the "Matthew Shepard Bill". You see, a young man named Matthew Shepard was lured into a car by two men who proceeded to smash his skull with the butt of a .357 Magnum pistol and then tie him to a fence post, so he could die. Homophibic Virginia Foxx decided to call out this story as a hoax, saying:

I also would like to point out that there was a bill -- the hate crimes bill that's called the Matthew Shepard bill is named after a very unfortunate incident that happened where a young man was killed, but we know that that young man was killed in the commitment of a robbery. It wasn't because he was gay. This -- the bill was named for him, hate crimes bill was named for him, but it's really a hoax that that continues to be used as an excuse for passing these bills...
Wow, she is some piece of work. She lied. Not only did she lie, but she used the lies of the two young men who perpetrated the crime of killing Matthew Shepard to try and put forth her argument. This is what truely happened.
Shortly after midnight on October 7, 1998, Matthew met his two killers in a bar. They offered Shepard a ride in their car claiming they were homosexuals, also. Shepard was robbed, beaten, and tortured, tied to a fence and left to die. Shepard was discovered eighteen hours later he was still alive, but in a coma. Shepard suffered a fractured skull from the back of his head to the front of his right ear. He had severe breain damage, which eventually killed him due to his body shutting down. He was pronounced dead at 12:53 A.M. on October 12, 1998 at Poudre Valley Hospital in Fort Collins. Police arrested his killers shortly thereafter, finding the bloody gun as well as the victim's shoes and wallet in their truck.
So what makes Foxx even worse is that the "robbery" aspect of the crime comes not from the real facts of the event, but from the defense the two murderers switched to during their trial. First they claimed they had "gay panic" when they supposedly discovered that Matthew Shepart was homosexual. The two killer's girlriends testified, however, that the two men had planned to target a gay man for their crime. They only later switched to claiming it was simply a robbery when their other defenses were not going well.
Nice job of supporting the criminals, and the very bottom of the barrel, Virginia Foxx.
